Consider this: Temptations abound. You have the power to choose! Doesn’t it seem like the entertainment industry stays awake at night thinking of new ways to tempt us? The Internet has become not only an information highway, but also a “wide road” filled with lures and enticements that vie for the minds of good, committed Christians. The world may tempt you, but by using God’s Word as your guide, you can live above these temptations. Whether we are young or old, we should always remember the answer to the question posed in Psalm 119:9a above—“By living according to Your Word” (Psalm 119:9b). The Word of God acts as a road map—a flight plan against evil. Because we sometimes get off course, we need to be reminded that the mistakes we make can’t shake God’s redemptive purposes. Sometimes God allows us to fail; our own judgments often mislead us. Here is the great news: when we finally learn to place our trust solely in Him rather than in our own wisdom, the choices get easier. Husbands and wives can help each other by encouraging each other to make the shift from self-reliance to God-reliance. Your marriage will be blessed if you and your spouse choose to live according to God’s Word. Discuss: In what ways has your family been most affected by the choices and decisions you have made? Pause here and be reminded that you have the freedom to choose, but you do not have the freedom to decide the results of your choice once you make it. Ask God to guard your heart according to His Word, so the choices both of you make will be in God’s will. The beginning of health is to know the disease.
